Job Description:

The role of the Purchasing Agent is to negotiate with vendors to purchase imported and domestically manufactured product to meet customer demand. The Agent will manage multiple projects with a large volume of SKUs, while driving continuous cost reduction and risk mitigation. The Agent will work closely with the Sales team to ensure vendor compliance on all products, as well as compliance on supplier standards.

Overall Responsibilities:
          Purchasing agent for companies products.
o           Maintain fill rates at 100% in accordance with Management team guidance
?           Review critical reports to ensure that we meet customer demand
o           Manage activities involved with procuring our products including but not limited to:          
?           Prepare purchase orders
?           Work closely with suppliers to determine product availability, lead times, and delivery schedules.
?           Maintain item maintenance in AS400
?           Review invoices for accuracy & submit to A/P in a timely manner
?           Monitor customer ship/cancel dates
?           Monitor fill rate metrics
?           Ensure all compliance and testing requirements are met according to the vendor compliance guide.
          Continuous cost reduction
o           Create a systematic RFP process for the company print business
o           Negotiate prices with printer & suppliers to meet buyer suggested retails for publications and products.
o           Identify & request pricing scales for new printing sources.
o           Work closely with Finance and Sales to ensure P&L results are acceptable.
o           Continue to identify & drive cost reduction on products throughout the product life cycle.
          Maintain strong relationships across departments
o           Must work closely with the operations team to coordinate delivery of products and books.
o           Clearly communicate priority shipments to operations team.
o           Work in tandem with Customer Service to understand the forecast for critical items, and communicate any issues in advance.
o           Work closely with Editorial team to ensure complete understanding of product specification when sending out RFQs.
o           Work closely with the Finance team to identify potential excess inventory and recommend items to be closed out.

Job Requirements:
          Bachelor's degree in Business, supply chain management or related field
          Must have exceptional skills in negotiation to meet cost and lead time targets
          3 5 years of experience in the publishing industry or purchasing for a big box retailer a plus
          Candidate must be detail oriented and ability to manage multiple projects at one time
          Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Access
          Knowledge of IBM iSeries a plus.
